1. About this policy

1.1 This Privacy Policy explains how Tradr Pty Ltd (ABN 91 563 765 407) (Tradr, we, us, our) collects, uses, stores and discloses personal information through the Tradr website, app and related services (the Platform).

1.2 We handle personal information in line with the Privacy Act 1988 (Cth) and the Australian Privacy Principles (APPs).

1.3 This policy applies to all Platform users: Builders, Homeowners, Tradies, Apprentices and visitors to our website.

2. Information we collect

2.1 Information you give us when you sign up and use the Platform:

  • Account details: name, email, phone number, password, role (Builder, Homeowner, Tradie or Apprentice) and profile photo.

  • Location: the address you enter when you sign up. We use it to match you with nearby users and jobs. Other users only see your suburb.

  • Business details (Builders and Tradies): business name, ABN, trade type, years of experience and service area. We do not currently collect licence details or documents.

  • Apprentice details: the trade you are learning, the trade school you attend (if any), your expected graduation year, years of experience, location, your resume and Tradr Tok videos of past work. We do not collect your date of birth.

  • Job and quote information: job ads, descriptions, photos, budgets, quotes, schedules, milestones and progress updates.

  • Communications: messages and chats with other users, and your communications with us.

  • Tradr Tok and other content: videos, photos, captions, reviews and ratings you upload or post.

  • Identity documents: we do not currently collect identity documents. If we introduce verification, we will update this policy.

2.2 Payment information. Purchases of credits and subscriptions are handled by our payment provider, Stripe. We receive limited information such as the amount, date, status and last four digits of a card. We do not store full card numbers. Payments for jobs are made directly between users and are not processed by Tradr. We only record the status of deposits and invoices (for example, paid or late) from the information users provide.

2.3 Reliability and payment history. We record how users behave on the Platform, including whether deposits and final payments are paid on time, jobs completed, cancellations, disputes and review ratings. We use this to show trust and reliability indicators on profiles and to support our mission of helping tradies work with builders and hirers who pay on time.

2.4 Information collected automatically: device type, operating system, IP address, app version, log data, pages and features used, and crash reports.

2.5 Information from others: other users (for example, reviews or complaints about you), public registers (such as ABN records), and our payment provider.

3. Why we collect and use your information

We use personal information to:

(a) create and manage your account;

(b) match Hirers with local Tradies and Apprentices with employers, and show relevant jobs and profiles;

(c) let users post jobs, send quotes, chat, hire, track jobs and leave reviews;

(d) process credit and subscription purchases and record the status of deposits and invoices between users;

(e) display ratings, reviews and payment reliability indicators;

(f) prevent fraud, abuse and breaches of our Terms, and keep users safe;

(g) respond to support requests and resolve disputes;

(h) send service messages such as quote alerts, job updates, payment receipts and security notices;

(i) send marketing messages where you have agreed or where the law permits (you can opt out at any time);

(j) improve, analyse and develop the Platform; and

(k) comply with legal obligations, including tax and record-keeping laws.

4. Who sees your information

4.1 Other users. When you use the Platform, some information is visible to other users, depending on your role:

  • Apprentice profiles can be seen by any other Tradr user, including your trade, school, graduation year, experience, suburb, resume and Tradr Tok videos. [CONFIRM what is shown on profiles of users under 18.]

  • Your street address is not shown to other users. Only your suburb is shown.

4.2 Service providers. We share information with providers who help us run the Platform, including:

  • payment processing (Stripe), for credits and subscriptions;

  • email delivery (Amazon Web Services SES);

  • media storage (Amazon Web Services S3);

  • cloud hosting (Amazon Web Services EC2);

4.3 Legal and regulatory. We may disclose information to government bodies, regulators, courts, law enforcement, tribunals or our professional advisers (lawyers, accountants, insurers) where required or authorised by law, or to protect rights, safety or property.

4.4 Business transfers. If Tradr is sold, merged or restructured, your information may be transferred to the new owner, who must continue to protect it under this policy.

4.5 We do not sell your personal information to third parties or use it for third-party advertising.

5. Location information

5.1 We collect the location you provide at sign up so we can show you nearby users and jobs.

5.2 We do not collect your device’s GPS or real-time location. We only use the address you enter when you sign up.

5.3 Other users see your suburb only.

6. Sending information overseas

We host the Platform and store your content using Amazon Web Services. Our servers are located in Melbourne, Australia. Some service providers, such as Stripe (payments), may process information outside Australia, including in the United States. Where we do this, we take reasonable steps to make sure the recipient handles your information in a way consistent with the APPs.

7. Photos, videos and public content

Content you post to Tradr Tok, your reviews and your profile are visible to other Tradr users. They are not visible to the public without an account. Do not upload anything you do not want shared. Do not include other people’s personal information (such as faces, number plates or addresses) in your content without their consent.

8. Children and Apprentices under 18

8.1 The Platform is for people aged 18 and over, except Apprentices and pre-apprentices aged 14 to 17, who may use it with the consent and supervision of a parent or guardian.

8.2 For users under 18, we limit the information we collect, do not use their information for marketing or advertising, and do not collect their precise location. We may also limit how others can contact them and what information about them is shown. [CONFIRM which protections apply in the app, particularly because apprentice profiles are visible to other users.]

8.3 If you are a parent or guardian and believe a child has used the Platform without consent, contact us and we will take reasonable steps to remove their account and information.

9. Marketing and communications

We may send you emails, SMS or push notifications about jobs, features and offers. You can opt out at any time using the unsubscribe link or in your app settings. We will still send you essential service messages. We comply with the Spam Act 2003 (Cth).

10. Cookies and analytics

Our website and app use cookies and similar technologies to keep you logged in, remember your preferences, understand how the Platform is used and improve performance. You can change your cookie settings in your browser, but some features may not work without them. We do not currently use third-party analytics tools.

11. Security

11.1 We take reasonable steps to protect personal information from misuse, interference, loss and unauthorised access, including encryption in transit, access controls and use of reputable hosting providers.

11.2 No online system is completely secure. Please use a strong password and keep your login details private.

11.3 If a data breach is likely to result in serious harm, we will notify affected people and the Office of the Australian Information Commissioner (OAIC) as required by the Notifiable Data Breaches scheme.

12. How long we keep information

We keep personal information only as long as needed for the purposes above, or as the law requires. Financial and tax records are generally kept for at least 7 years. If you close your account, we will delete or de-identify your personal information within 10 days, unless we need to keep it for legal, fraud-prevention, dispute or record-keeping reasons. Reviews and job records involving other users may be kept in de-identified form.

You can view and update most of your information in your account settings. You may also ask us to give you access to the personal information we hold about you, to correct it, or to delete it. We will respond within a reasonable time, normally within 30 days. We may refuse a request where the law allows, and will explain why.
